Let’s get real for a moment.
We’ve all heard the disheartening statistic that 90% of small businesses fail in their first year.
But here’s the thing: most of those so-called “businesses” aren’t actually businesses at all.
They’re delusions of entrepreneurship.
These wild fantasies of success crumble when reality sets in.
Think about it.
How many times have you come across someone excitedly talking about their “social media” business or their “online” business?
Or maybe they’re caught up in some MLM scheme or an internet-get-rich-quick business.
These delusions are simply not viable businesses.
They never were, and they always end up abandoned.
Let me give you a perfect example.
Have you ever watched Arrested Development?
It’s a clever TV show about a dysfunctional family.
In one episode, the family’s responsible member tries to talk his sister out of starting a “bead business” because all her previous businesses had failed.
Now, here’s where it gets ridiculous.
The sister actually forgets about her “bead business” after just one day, realizing it was a dumb idea.
But her brother holds onto his “bee business” idea and carries around a jar of bees for the rest of the episode.
Now, let me ask you this: who in their right mind would want a bee as a gift?
Nobody, of course.
The “bee business” is an over-the-top satire, but it’s a perfect example of the kind of dumb nonsense people start and call a business.
So, gents – let’s make sure you don’t fall into the trap of starting these dumb “bee businesses” in the hopes of getting rich quickly.
I want to give you three helpful tips to remember when starting a real business that will thrive.
These are also things I’m currently implementing and learning as I grow the Jacked & Stacked brand.
So you can literally see me put all of my advice into action in real-time (if you’re paying attention).
1) A Business Ain’t No Business Unless It Sells Something
Let’s get this straight: a business is a transaction.
It’s a two-way street where people buy what you’re selling.
You need to have something that people want or need, and in return, they give you something you want (that sweet, sweet cash).
Take a moment and think about those so-called Internet businesses.
Most of them aren’t actually businesses yet.
They’re just wannabe businesses that haven’t figured out the missing piece.
A blog, for example, is just a blog unless it sells something or makes money through advertising or affiliate marketing.
Until it generates revenue, it’s nothing more than a hobby.
To have a real business, you need to sell something people want or need.
If all you have is a pocket full of bees, then I hate to break it to you, but your “business” is trash.
It’s time to toss it in the trash and start afresh.
2) It Takes Time to Build Something Valuable
Listen up.
I recently received an email from someone asking if working 10-15 hours per week online is enough to make $3,000 per month in just six months.
I laughed at that.
Let me set the record straight:
building something that makes money takes time.
And it takes all of your time to get it off the ground.
Sure, you might see those guys online boasting about how they made thousands of dollars in just a few minutes, and they promise you can do it too.
But here’s the truth — they’re selling you something.
They’re in the business of selling you business opportunities, and the easier they make it sound, the more money goes into their bank accounts.
Here’s the catch — they work a whole lot more than 10-15 hours per week. It’s time to stop falling for their tricks and put in the time and effort to build something valuable.
Half-assing it will only lead to joining the 90% of businesses that fail in their first year.
3) Don’t Put the Cart Before the Horse: Content, Value, and Social Media
Now, let’s talk about SEO and social media.
SEO, or search engine optimization, is the practice of manipulating Google’s algorithms to get your website to the top of search results.
But guess what?
Google isn’t stupid. They know what’s going on.
Every so often, they release an “update” that wipes out those worthless websites that manipulated their way to the top.
The problem with these websites isn’t SEO itself, but the fact that they don’t provide good content.
When those updates hit, these websites scramble to find new ways to stay on top, overlooking the most critical aspect: providing value from the start.
It works the same way for social media. This is why most social media “stars” who go viral don’t last long.
They don’t actually provide any real value.
Instead, they focus on voodoo to go viral never realizing that good brands should have been their foundation all along.
It baffles me how often people email me, even before they have a means of providing value or a product, to ask about their social media strategy.
Let me make this clear:
all the SEO and social media in the world mean nothing if you don’t have a product or an audience.
Jacked & Stacked has an audience because it offers something of value.
Without an audience, nobody cares about you or your product.
You don’t build an audience with SEO or social media.
You build an audience by having a good product.
Yes, social media can help you keep in contact with your existing audience, and SEO can potentially reach more people, but they can never be the foundation of a successful web business.
Let me tell you a little story.
Years ago, I met a guy who wasn’t particularly impressive initially.
He was overweight, in his mid-30s, unemployed, and still living in his parent’s house.
But he was ecstatic because he managed to get his harmonica website ranked in the top 5 search results on Google for some random harmonica keyword.
Guess what?
His so-called “business” was trash.
It sold nothing, provided no value, and was just a basic point-and-click template website.
I laughed in his face because I knew it was destined to fail. And that’s precisely what happened.
His “business” is long gone.
Now, let me share the real truth with you.
Yes, you can make money online.
You do it by providing something of value or solving a problem.
It takes time, effort, and a whole lot of hustle, but it’s within your reach.
Put in the hard work, create something valuable, and take control of your own product.
But here’s the catch: you can’t half-ass it, and it won’t happen overnight.
Those internet hustlers might make a quick buck, but they’ll try different tricks until one works, and even then, the money runs out fast.
It’s a never-ending cycle of chasing the next hustle, while the bee business collapses time and time again.
And now, you’re one step ahead.
When those so-called SEO and social media gurus come trying to sell you their strategies, just laugh in their faces.
Instead, build something real.
Build something valuable.
Now you know the truth.
It’s time to build something real and leave those delusions of business behind.
